Jack's Diary - Day 1, September 16th 2013

It's been three days since The Hill fell. I really thought it was an absolute sanctuary, an impenetrable  land for the living. No one expected such a serge of lost souls to surround The Hill. It was almost as if they made a declaration to themselves, having finally tolerated our co-existence of violence and avoidance for long enough. All the people I cared about are lost once again, either walking among the lost souls or hiding in the basement of a small shack. I could look for them, but I feel no desire to. I already witnessed some of my fondest friends running to save their own hides and those who stood strong to protect our home succumb to the serge, with all their sacrifices being in vane. No, those who ran can rot and die of hunger for all I care. Of course, I'm no better. I walk away without a scratch on me all because I was positioned as sniper that day. Once I ran out of ammo, I could have charged down there with my club and knocked a few heads. The result would have been the same, however.
I tread lightly across the bloody grass, taking one last look at my home. There are too many memories that lurk in the street corners and benches of this place. The thoughts come rushing in with draggers, tormenting the realization that all that was good was lost. I see old friends walking aimlessly or what is left of them. I wish I could end them, to put them at ease, but there are far to many nearby and doing so would put me in danger. Would it really be so bad?
I'm walking out the highway entrance tonight, my first time leaving this place in 7 years. I've gathered enough food, water, and ammo for the trip from the storage house. Funny, no one thought to hide in there. I also found an old notebook to write in. I could bring my old journals with me, but those no longer matter. Paradise is lost.

Day 19, July 15th 2013 - Reunion.

12:10 AM

"MIKE HELP !", I heard Lexi's scream, woke up and rushed outside. I saw Lexi was using her bow and I also saw Jess and Greg. I grabbed my baseball bat and  took the craze down one by one of course with the help of Jess and Lexi. "This is your camp huh?" Lexi asked them. "Yes" Jess said, "we almost fucking raid it." I said. Jess thanked me and said sorry and all that about what happened at her house. She asked me what happened, and I told her I broke my ankle, passed out, and Lexi took care of me, and so on. We sat down and ate our deer meet that we had left cuz it was starting to rot. Here we are in the jungle on our way to Toronto again. Victor, I thought, my other cousin. He lived with my brother, but moved 2 months before this happened, perhaps he knows where he is. So I told the group we're heading west now to Manitoba. We packed up and did a vote, either we go through the jungle, wet, dirty, safer, shelters are easy to find, and hunt for food, or city, not so safe, scavenge for canned food and weapons, and the possibility of cars. "So?" I said, "city?". "I'm not going anywhere without you Mike." Said Lexi, "City it is." Jess responded. We went out of the jungle to an open road, we decided to rest in one of the car, 1 guard the rests sleep and so on. I'll try to Hotwire a car tomorrow to get going.

Day 18, July 14th 2013 - Easy Today.

12:32 AM

We decided to gather everything we could today and continue for our journey. We as usual looted some houses and stores for food or weapons. Or even survivors, "Can you whistle?" She said, "well that was random, and yeah. Why?" I said, "well I can't." She kept bothering me the whole day by doing that weird blowing sound that people make when they can't whistle properly. After a long walk we decided to stop at some drugstore and went in. When we were inside boom, craze of course, what else do you expect? A cute fucking puppy? I only wish. "Try your bow and arrow. Right in the head." I said, and she did it ! One shot thats all she took. I nudged her head proudly, "good job kiddo." Then I went and took the other 2 out. I asked her to wait for me outside while I searched the drugstore, nothing was there, so we decided to continue the long walk. "Do you know anything about the rebels?" I said, "yeah my parents were in it. Don't even bother to ask where they at. Last time I saw them, they were heading to the military base in Quebec." She responded. I saw a smoke, so we followed. We went to some small campsite but no one was there, I was about to go in but Lexi convinced me not to and just watch the camp from several distance, so we did. We waited there for so long, but no one came so we decided go into this tree. Right, inside it, theres room for two, so we think we're going to spend the night there. Today was an easy day for us, and Lexi proved me she can "kinda" handle herself.
