Day 89 Back to normal it is - Mike's Diary

*yesterday*
While I was lost, I was actually managed to find some good spots for us to camp from time to time. Yesterday afternoon, when the fog was going away, I decided to start making my way back to the river where Julie, Moses, and Jack were camping. I had to struggle finding the right directions. In the evening, I saw an abandoned gas station, so I'm guessing that there will be a suburbs/town nearby. I was right. I decided to mark the way by breaking each tree branches that leads to that abandoned gas station, and I made my way back, and somehow found a little ravine which led me to the river.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The walk was far between the town to the river so it might take us a day or two, so we packed up in the morning, and made our way across the river. We didn't swim of course. I swam across to attach a rope on a tree, then the rest follows across while holding that rope, just to be safe. Once we're all set, I just realized that Victor and Jess were back. I was too dizzy to concentrate to how many people in our current group, so I was just kind of ignoring them. Well, as long as they're safe, I'm happy. Along the way, we all talk about what happened, well, me I told them what happened to me, and Victor and Jess? It's a whole lot different story. "Do you even know where we're going?" Jack asked. "Yeah, these branches." I replied. "Man, you better be right, because I'm so excited for getting my hands on supplies to make more weapons and all." He responded. We walked for another hour, where we were stopped by a conversation. We heard it clear, but we couldn't see anything, so Moses and Victor decided to check the paths while we were resting.

*Evening*

Victor and Moses came back, they said there is a group of people, just like us, but Victor wasn't sure whether they are dangerous or not. In the end we all agreed to go around to avoid any contact with other groups whether if they were a threat or not. This case we would have to walk about 3-4 extra miles to reach the abandoned gas station I was talking about. I don't know how long it will take us with our limited supplies, but we'll try our best. After walking for another hour, the sky is getting dark, and we can kind of see a large building miles away from on top of a tree, with my sniper rifle that is. Barely visible, but reaching it in two days is not impossible. I think everyone wants to rest here for the night, I don't know what their problem is, but I'd just go for it for another hour, then we'll rest in a safer spot further from the group that we encountered before. I don't want any more dead bodies after what happened.

*Night*

Yup, I already told ya, they're staying here. Julie and Jess are trying to make a fire, Victor and Jack are on top of a tree of the opposite side keeping watch, and me and Moses are trying to fence the perimeter using an early alert system (That is ropes tied onto trees with cans filled with rocks hanging on the ropes). Just to give us some alert if anyone, or anything come near us. Hopefully we can get to that town ASAP, start everything again, from the ground up. Though I know it will get raided as usual. I'm tired of this, all we've been doing is trying to survive, and kill. We even forget how to enjoy our lives.

Mike's Diary Day 68 - Where were we? Oh right.

Okay where were we? It's been along time, since I haven't written down anything on my journal (only 1 day). Yesterday, it took me a long time to plan our strategies in case the valors come unexpectedly, but no worries, I'm almost done.

I woke up this morning. Well, Moses woke me up. He asked me where Jack is, and I told him that I don't know and that I'm going to find him today with the other search parties. I got off of my bed, headed directly to the washroom, washed my face, and looked into the mirror. I stared on my own reflection for a good 5 minutes. The water was dripping down my face, my eyes look weary. Why us? Why ? I'd rather be living in my life several months ago before this thing all started. I'd rather play video games about a post-apocalpytic era than being in one. I stopped staring, dried my face with my towel, and headed outside. First thing first, eat! I haven't eaten a full meal since I don't know how long ago. I walked towards the kitchen, and there Victor and Jess were cooking breakfast.

Smelled really good to be honest. What was it you asked? It was squirrel. Yes, in this age of desperation, we eat what we can get. I didn't want to eat it, but it's better than starve yourself to your death, so I ate it. Tasted like rabbit meat, a bit tough to chew though, but other than that, it filled me up for the rest of the afternoon. After I ate, I gathered five people to go with me in a search for Jack (Julie is one of them). I gave each one of them a gun, and a blunt weapon, and I told them that we should NEVER use guns on craze unless we are cornered. They nodded, though I'm still worried that one of them will chickened out and pull out his gun and fires. Anyways, off we went to find Jack.

We were in a truck. Well, they were in a truck, whereas Julie and I were on the motorcycle that we found yesterday, just before we got back to base. It's a great experience to ride one actually. Feels like nothing I've ever felt before. The wind breeze hitting on my face, and also the adrenaline rush when you accelerate fast enough that it can no longer go much faster. Anyways, enough with that motorcycle riding experience. During the trip, the first place that I thought of was the city that we were just in yesterday. That's where most of the supplies are, and if he goes somewhere far and deep into the jungle, Jack is not so smart after all. We arrived at the city, and didn't know what to do. If we scream, or yell, craze will come, and it'll also attract bastards like the valors. After a while, we decided to shoot a flare up into the air hoping that Jack is not more than 5 miles away from our location. After firing the first flare, we proceeded our way up to a building's roof, where it's nearly impossible for craze to go up there. I've set up two sniper posts, Danny was on the left, and his twin Daniel was on the right. We camped there, just in case if Jack sees the flare, he could possibly notice that we're looking for him.

Boom, the second flare went off 2 hours after the first one, and still nothing. I don't know where he is, but we only have 3 flares left for him to see. The night is approaching, more and more craze are coming out, so obviously we don't want to risk our lives by going down there and going back to the base. The best thing that we can do now is wait and hope for the best. If Jack isn't anywhere near us, we will proceed our way, possibly to the next city, which is only 25 minutes of bike ride. With that said, it's my turn now to watch the base on the sniper post. Julie is going to accompany me on the other side (I doubt she can use that sniper rifle, but oh well.)

Day 56 - Mike's Diary "Safe? Think again!"

Last night without the others noticing, I was secretly watching from inside my tent, the group. One person in particular, Ann, the new comer. She had been staring at Jack all night long. it makes me wonder what is up with this girl.
The next morning is raining, sucks I know. I get out of my tent to see the others were already packing their stuff. Jack is checking the weapon supplies, Julie, Ann, and Victor checking the food and water supplies, and Jess is checking the medical supplies. Everything goes smoothly without any distractions or challenges. Once we are all done, we decide to proceed our way to our destination.
"Alright you guys good?" I ask
       "Aye sir" some shout
"Never better." Jack yells with a grin on his face. He seems up today, happy, I don't know what is going on inside his head, but iit's a good sign. I too smile. We proceed our way to a dark forest with our flashlights in one hand and weapon in the other. We are taking this trip slow and steady. I am trying my best to keep everybody safe, but just when I think we are, a horde of craze swarms us. Jack is about to shoot, but I told him to use his crowbar so that he won't attract more hordes. The struggle lasted for 15 minutes or so, no-one is injured, or so I think. We continue our long trip when  I hear Julie groans.
"Are you okay?" I ask, she lifts her right sleeve a wee bit.

"Holy shit, you're bitten." Says Victor. Jack raises his gun, and points it on her head, but I manage to block it with my body and I told him to lower the gun. He hesitates, and yes I understand, he cares about the group, I get it, but I can't stand seeing a little girl, Julie, is shot in the head. I told Jack to calm down.

          "I'm immune." Julie says
"Have you ever been bitten before?" Jack asks
"No, but I would feel the fever by now if I wasn't immune."
"Stop it you two. I'll tie her on a tree beside my tent. If she turns, I'll kill her." say I. Everyone seems okay with this, but not me. We unpack and make our own tents. Everyone is busy, I see Jack is chatting with Ann, but decided not to go and bother them. Instead, I decide to approach Julie and sit beside her. Long silence.
"You're gonna kill me?" She asks
"Not if you really are immune. I hope you are."
"Mike..." she reaches for her bag and hands me a ring. It was Lexi's. "Jess took it, back at Lexi, before you met me. I don't know why she chose me to do this." I stare at her, I almost weep, but look away and said "Wear it. We'll continue our trip tomorrow." I stand up but Julie holds my leg.
          "But what if.." she asks
"I said we continue OUR trip tomorrow." she stays quite. Jack seems to notice this, so he walks towards me and asks what's wrong. I said nothing, and I give Jess a disappointment look. I know she cares, but reminding me to Lexi isn't going to help. I decided to make fire since the night is approaching.
At night, we eat, feat and drink, with Julie staring at us from 5 feet away. I walk to her and give her a cup of hot chocolate, then she thanks me. I was about to walk away, but I stop. I turn my head halfway to the right, and whisper
           "Please don't turn."
She doesn't respond to me, but stares at me. I walk back to her and give her a crowbar as a weapon, and walk back to the group. I chat a little while more, then look over to Julie who's already asleep. I walk towards her, take her cup away, and cover her with a blanket, and notice that the group is watching me, but I ignore them. After I'm done, I drink some water, write this diary, and now I'm done.

Day 47

"Are you okay?" I asked Lexi.
     "Yes, but Victor..."
"Yeah I know. Go get some rest. You kicked ass though." I chuckled and gave her a hand gun.
"Now what." Said Jess who was taking care of Victor at the time. I looked to her, then glanced over to Jack. Oh I see you want revenge right Jack? Well it'd be better to do it after we deliver this thing don't you think? More guns, gather more people? Ask for Valors' help?
     "So Jack." I asked
"I'm going with or without you guys."
     "That's what I thought."
"You, guys be safe. I'm going tomorrow morning"
"No, everyone comes with you. I'll deliver this to valors myself."
"Mike WHAT THE FUCK!" Lexi yelled from across the room.
     "Language."
"Don't tell me that. I'm going with you." She responded. All I could do is let her be.

*NEXT MORNING*

Everybody wakes up, and is packing their stuff.
"Jack how far is it? Their base?" I asked
"Far enough. You two. We don't need two more dead people."
"And I don't need three." I said, then I continued, "you see that church? The one over the mountain. We'll be there in 2 days. Try to catch up if you can. If you can't, turn back to base or go to this address." I handed him a copy o the address. Then we went on our own ways. Me and Lexi walked, far, far enough for her to collapse and just sit down in the middle of the muddy road to take a rest. It's not yet evening, but since winter is approaching, it gets pretty dark.
"You haven't answered my question. What happened to you before you met me." I asked
"I was with my aunt. But you know, shit went down. I try to survive, blablabla, 5 days later, you found me." She answered. "Yourself?"
"Me?" I asked "well, had a family once. They all dead."
     "I'm sorry."
     "Me too."
I got her up and we continue walking. Craze here and there but they don't even bother us anymore, we tried our best to be unseen. Uzi in my right hand, a revolver in Lexi's. Lexi for some reason doesn't complain that much during the trip. You're a tough little kid for your age kiddo. We walk until it was really dark, approximately 15 miles away from the church. We set up a tent, went in it, I'm staying up and she's sleeping. We'll take turn obviously. There's nothing else to do, so I decided to write this. Hopefully those three are just fine, and can meet up with us in two days in the church. I was so stupid not telling them what the signal is when we're near by because yelling and screaming out names just doesn't cut it. It'll bring us to our own deaths. Mike, you're so dumb.
