Day 137 The end of Jack's Survival and Ours - Mike's Diary

That's it. Everyone was gathering around me listening to what Jack had to say. It was all bye, bye, and bye. He wished us luck, and I could hear the fire and wood burning in the background covered with the static from the walkie-talkie. His last word was "It's been a pleasure meeting you all." That's it, the walkie-talkie died, and all we could see was the thick black smoke miles away from where we are at. We just stayed there, mourning over his death, and the worse part is, we couldn't stop him from doing it since he was already a dead man the first time we saw him (We just didn't know that yet). Now all there is left, memories. Everyone suggested that we should go to where the fire was, to gather ashes (that resembles Jack's remain) and put them in a vase/container. Yes, we walked all the way there, craze were everywhere, rotten burning flesh, metal, woods, it's hot and we were all having a hard time to breathe. After we got what we wanted, we started making our way back to our destination (Which is the cave) since we have no where else to go. Another day in  hell, right? Right I forgot to mention that what Jack left me was his diary. It is very intriguing to see Jack's point of view of day to day lives of ours. Now I know what has been going on with him more clearly, where he was when he wasn't around, and why he did what he did. It all makes sense now. As for now, how can we survive this any longer? Is there still civilization outside this country? We can't be certain. Stories don't always have a happy ending, but hey, this is reality, not story. I just want to start fresh, in the cave (how ironic since we were all once cavemen), far away from craze populated area, and jerkwads who keep trying to kill and steal. Before anything though, I want to make 1 last journey, back to Lexi's grave, where I can put "Jack's" ashes right beside Lexi's grave. I'm not going to leave anywhere, not trying to go to another city, another country, it's time for me to rest. My diary will end here, for it is the last page that I'm writing on. Thank you for following my journey, and if you have the chance to, try to save this and Jack's diary too, for the future awaits, to tell the new generations that the plague existed (IF there's still cure to be found).

Mike's Diary Day 70 - Project Nuke? I don't know, maybe later.

*Morning*

Usual routine, you see, nothing much to do in an apocalypse believe it or not. In fact, me, the one who has always wanted it, not is living in regrets. The morning was quite I was doing nothing, then Jack went into my room. He told me that he's going to do it alone, but I talked him out. Yes it's a good plan I agree, but I don't wat him to be going alone, so I said to him I will alone go with him, without anyone else (except Julie I BET). I told Jack that we will do it after we take care of the valors, he nodded in dissapointment, then he walked away.

*Afternoon*

I was out by myself, in the suburbs (again), looking for some cool stuff that I don't even know what I'm going to do with. I thought about Jack's idea and thought that I should try it. I knew there was no backing out in this plan. I searched for a air horn, after I found one (not easy) I quickly made 3 molotovs from my tshirt ( I had to rip it, dumb stuff considering there were full clothed corpses around) and some alcohol I found in a liquor store. I went ontop of a roof, and honked tht air horn for a good 3 minutes (it was so loud, I'm sure everyone with a distance to my base could hear it.) Craze started cpming out, without realizing there were more than hundreds on the road trying to get a piece of me. They were all burned as I threw each molotov down the road. I was excited untilI got shot on my right shoulder.

*Evening*

I got back from wherever I was out, and the doctor did some surgery on me tp get the bullet out. I swear I'm getting used to getting shot. I went to the kitchen to eat, and guess what, Julie came. She started to ask me if I was okay, and told me that I'm a dumbass and should stop going alone (agree). She even said "Good for you, getting shot everytime you go out alone." in her good'ol sarcastic tone, then she left. Jack saw me after that, he only asked if I was okay or not (I don't know if he heard my air horn, but I decided not to tell the whole story.)
Again, he left, but before he left, I decided to put him in charge in the weapon crafting, I told him something silent, but can hit the range of at least 30 metres away (Let that imagination comes in to you Jack lol). He left and said "I'll see what I can come up with."

That's it, I just sit on the bench in the "backyard" looking at the dryness of a field with no green vegetations whatsoever, lonely. (I forgot that Jack was supposed to be the farmer, but oh well.)

Day 56 - Mike's Diary "Safe? Think again!"

Last night without the others noticing, I was secretly watching from inside my tent, the group. One person in particular, Ann, the new comer. She had been staring at Jack all night long. it makes me wonder what is up with this girl.
The next morning is raining, sucks I know. I get out of my tent to see the others were already packing their stuff. Jack is checking the weapon supplies, Julie, Ann, and Victor checking the food and water supplies, and Jess is checking the medical supplies. Everything goes smoothly without any distractions or challenges. Once we are all done, we decide to proceed our way to our destination.
"Alright you guys good?" I ask
       "Aye sir" some shout
"Never better." Jack yells with a grin on his face. He seems up today, happy, I don't know what is going on inside his head, but iit's a good sign. I too smile. We proceed our way to a dark forest with our flashlights in one hand and weapon in the other. We are taking this trip slow and steady. I am trying my best to keep everybody safe, but just when I think we are, a horde of craze swarms us. Jack is about to shoot, but I told him to use his crowbar so that he won't attract more hordes. The struggle lasted for 15 minutes or so, no-one is injured, or so I think. We continue our long trip when  I hear Julie groans.
"Are you okay?" I ask, she lifts her right sleeve a wee bit.

"Holy shit, you're bitten." Says Victor. Jack raises his gun, and points it on her head, but I manage to block it with my body and I told him to lower the gun. He hesitates, and yes I understand, he cares about the group, I get it, but I can't stand seeing a little girl, Julie, is shot in the head. I told Jack to calm down.

          "I'm immune." Julie says
"Have you ever been bitten before?" Jack asks
"No, but I would feel the fever by now if I wasn't immune."
"Stop it you two. I'll tie her on a tree beside my tent. If she turns, I'll kill her." say I. Everyone seems okay with this, but not me. We unpack and make our own tents. Everyone is busy, I see Jack is chatting with Ann, but decided not to go and bother them. Instead, I decide to approach Julie and sit beside her. Long silence.
"You're gonna kill me?" She asks
"Not if you really are immune. I hope you are."
"Mike..." she reaches for her bag and hands me a ring. It was Lexi's. "Jess took it, back at Lexi, before you met me. I don't know why she chose me to do this." I stare at her, I almost weep, but look away and said "Wear it. We'll continue our trip tomorrow." I stand up but Julie holds my leg.
          "But what if.." she asks
"I said we continue OUR trip tomorrow." she stays quite. Jack seems to notice this, so he walks towards me and asks what's wrong. I said nothing, and I give Jess a disappointment look. I know she cares, but reminding me to Lexi isn't going to help. I decided to make fire since the night is approaching.
At night, we eat, feat and drink, with Julie staring at us from 5 feet away. I walk to her and give her a cup of hot chocolate, then she thanks me. I was about to walk away, but I stop. I turn my head halfway to the right, and whisper
           "Please don't turn."
She doesn't respond to me, but stares at me. I walk back to her and give her a crowbar as a weapon, and walk back to the group. I chat a little while more, then look over to Julie who's already asleep. I walk towards her, take her cup away, and cover her with a blanket, and notice that the group is watching me, but I ignore them. After I'm done, I drink some water, write this diary, and now I'm done.

Day 44 - "No Ride Home" - Mike's Diary

I sat in the tent with Jessie, Victor, and Lexi, waiting for Jack doing his "business" with the raider outside. He peeked his head into tent and signaled me that he was done. I went outside just to looked at the woman died, laid on the street. I walked up to the body and dragged, then dumped it in the ravine right across. I walked back towards Jack and stood there
"You're a fucking monster. Should've just put a bullet through her head. You didn't need to torture her." I said, and he said nothing. I told him to get the others and pack up everything, I folded the other tents, and said "We're Walking." Everyone looked very upset about the situation, but we can't waste any time. So off we go, we started walking along the road single file, Me, Victor, Lexi, Jessie, and Jack at the very back. I was wondering whether we have to cut through the forest or follow the road.
"We take the road, more craze, but more chance of getting a new vehicle. We cut through the forest, safer, but no ride. Take a vote." I said. Jessie, and Jack voted forest but the three of us voted the road, so we continued with our journey.
4 hours have passed, and we finally found an abandoned RV, and I decided to open a camp there and to stay for the night. I told Jack to keep a look out and get on top of the RV, and Victor keep a look out on the ground while the rest of us are taking a break inside the tents. I'm writing this journal, the night is silence, no wind, no signs of life, and no conversation was made for the rest of the day. The birds, crows, gawks, then it the night stays silent once again.

Mike's Diary - Day 43 "Valor's package"

6 o'clock, the bell rings, the birds chirped away. It was dark hence the sun has not yet rises. It was calm, a cold sunday morning (if I'm not mistaken). I saw Jack in the distant with his backpack  walking towards us.
"Glad you changed your mind." I said
"I don't want you guys to die to be honest. 2 kids, why even are you bringing them With you?" He responded.
"First of all Victor (who was just turned 18 at a time) is not a kid. And Lexi, well it's Lexi. i'm sure you understand." I said
My pickup truck will do the job. Jessie's on the passenger seat, and Victor, Lexi, and Jack are on the open trunk at the back.
      "Where we heading?" Jack said
"The Valors' base. Going to make sure they have what they are willing to give us. I want the half rewards just to make sure they ain't lying."

50 minutes, then here we are, on a wooden floor at the very front part of the Valors' base. *fast forward* yes we got the half from it. Then when it comes down to the package, it's just a paper. A paper? I thought, but it's not just a paper but there is an address written on it.
"The package will be there, 5 stories building, looks almost like the white house. There is a basement, on the right there is a bunch of sand bags. Pick up the one with the red string then a wall-door will open." Says one of the valors.
Of we go with our half rewards
"See, wasn't that hard..." I said to everyone. Obviously no one responded. We stopped at a gas station, well I stop. I  send Victor and Jack away into the store just to make sure that there is nothing in it. I took out the map, and mark where we are at and where our destination is (Canada, British Columbia) nearly 50000 miles from where we are at right now, tis gonna be a long trip.
Jack and Victor came back out from the store and told me that the place is safe, and that we could sleep inside, but i didn't want to get cornered by either craze or other survivors, so I decided for us all that it is better to be sleeping in a tent at the back of the store and that each person (excluding Lexi) will have to stay up 4 hours to patrol and so on. I am willing to go first so here I am. Trying to keep these loved ones in a tent to live another day so they can tell their stories.
4 Hours have passed, I heard someone came out of the tent and yes, it is Jack. I finish my shift, make my way into the tent, and try to forget the frustrations for a moment.

Day 42 Valors. -Mike's Diary

I went and talked to my brother, he seems so disappointed, yet relieved that I talked to him. Then he said "Fine,, but I want you to keep an eye on jack. Sure you guys can farm, just don't mess everything up. And Mike, you're in charge."
In my mind, I was so happy that I have solved another conflict in this base, I feel more useful than I ever before. I walked up to Jack when he seemed to be doing something in his room, and told him the good news. And sure enough, e was happy. I told him I was in charge and  I want him to do whatever the hell he wants about the garden at the bak, hence I know no shit about gardening.
That evening I decided to go on a run to gather some antibiotics and some seeds for Jack, so that he can start on the garden as soon as possible. There was something odd about this town though, all the walls were stamped with the word "Valors" I wonder what it means. In about 30 mins trough my run, I encountered another base of survivors, I didn't want them to know my existence because it'd mean more wars between groups, so I decided to leave. On the way back, I encountered 2 guys, and their sweaters say "Valors". So that's what it means. Surprisingly, they didn't threatened me, in fact they offered me a deal, a good deal. They would give me food and more weapons, but I have to deliver something to the other branch of Valors across the province. I took the deal.
I said that I'd get going tomorrow with  5 other survivors. The night when I got home, I saw someone was standing in the dark, it was Lexi. I told her that we'll be going somewhere tomorrow with Jack, Jessie, and Victor. She said okay, and she told Victor and Jessie the same thing, but she didn't even bother asking why and where. After I finished talking to Lexi, I decide to break the news to Jack, sure enough he didn't seem to like the idea of the deal thing. Oh well, what can I say. I told him that we are going across the province, and it made him insist more to not going. I was upset for sure but I didn't wanna show it, then I said "If you change your mind, meet us by the front gate tomorrow morning 6 o'clock sharp." Then I left. That night, I packed everything from food, clothes, first aid, and guns, then I sleep while wondering what kind of "package" that we have to deliver such that they would give us huge amount of resources.
